Advent Day 19: Wait and Watch

December 19, 2017

"I will take my stand at my watchpost
    and station myself on the tower,
and look out to see what he will say to me,
    and what I will answer concerning my complaint"

Habakkuk 2:1

What do we  we do in a world full  of injustice where our just God seems silent? We wait for our God. What do we do when the evil keep on winning and the arrogant keep succeeding? We watch for our God. What do we do when our heads are filled with questions and our lips cry out in frustration to the Lord? We look for him.

Habakkuk wasn't shy about complaining to God, but he waited in faith for God's answer. As he asks God question after question, Habakkuk learns to wait and trust in God. Questioning God is not a sin when our questions are directed in faith. He is big enough for our questions. He may make us wait. The waiting is painful, but it grows our faith.

For still the vision awaits its appointed time;
    it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it;
    it will surely come; it will not delay.

Habakkuk 2:3

Justice seems slow, but God promises that it will surely come and it will not delay. God's timing is not ours, which is a good thing, because we become impatient rather quickly. God is infinitely patient and his timing is perfect and always on time.

We can trust God in the pain of the wait because we know he is faithful and just.

 Once again, I found a charm in the fairy tale line at Hobby Lobby that was perfect. I loved this tower and wanted it to represent the watch tower and watching and waiting for Christ to return.
